I have been a manager at a local hotel for the past seven years, and when I took the job seven years ago, the hotel was filled every single night, and we charged top dollar to stay in our establishment.
We constantly had the No Vacancy sign flashing in red.
As the years have gone by, our occupancy has gotten less and less. A big reason is due to the fact that the hotel needs a lot of updates. A lot of customers complain about the old items in our rooms. The biggest complaint has been the heating and air conditioning units. All of the heating and air conditioning units on the first and second floor are 30 years old. They look like they were installed during 1975. I have been telling the owner of the hotel that we need to make an update. I have mentioned updates every month for the past three years, and the owner is finally listening, because next month, we are going to close down for two weeks while a great deal of renovations are being made. All of the rooms are receiving modern carpet, furniture, and Heating and A/C units. The lobby is receiving modern carpet and furniture as well. We are even going to remarcite the pool and add a slide. All of the modern additions should help us stay competitive in the region. There are at least a dozen different hotels in the area and ours is definitely one of the oldest. The modern Heating and A/C equipment, carpet, and swimming pool renovations should help draw people into our lobby doors.
