I recently had some problems with my health.

  • Last June, I started suffering from headaches, congestion, sore throat and itchy eyes.

Since I’ve never had allergies, I couldn’t figure out the reason for my symptoms. I realized that I always felt terrible in the morning, while I was heading to work. This is typically when I have the highest energy levels and am my most productive. I then considered that my workouts were also being adversely impacted. I was having difficulty getting through the aerobic portion of the training sessions. When my heart would start pumping extra hard, it became a challenge to breathe deeply. I was becoming dizzy and feeling slightly nauseous. I checked online and looked into potential causes for my symptoms. I read that issues with indoor air quality are most often the culprit. Once I paid attention, I saw that there was an excessive amount of dust and particles floating in the air at the gym. There was also a slight musty scent. My health problems had developed right at the same time the outside temperature and humidity increased and led to starting up the air conditioning. I spoke with the management of the gym and explained my concerns. I later heard that they’d arranged to have the central cooling system professionally serviced. I’m convinced there was an accumulation of mold, mildew, dust and probably bacteria inside the inner components. Whenever the air conditioning started up, it was probably spreading these allergens into the indoor environment. Working out causes people to breathe more heavily and puts us at greater risk of respiratory infection. Once the cooling system was cleaned and running properly, my health complaints disappeared.
