Because I travel a lot for my job, keeping up with my fitness regiment is often a challenge.

If I’m fortunate, I get to stay in a nicer hotel with a workout center.

Some of the hotel’s offer state-of-the-art fitness equipment. They include bathrooms, water coolers, sweat towels and a range of options from ellipticals to free weights. Others are the size of a small closet and have a single, outdated treadmill. There are also many occasions where the hotel offers no way for me to workout. When possible, I’ll go for a run around the area. It’s always interesting to check out new places. I use my phone to map out a good run and try to take in as many local sites as possible. However, the weather doesn’t always cooperate and I don’t always feel safe. Depending on my work requirements, I sometimes need to workout late at night. I’ve learned to pack workout gear. Even in a small suitcase, I’m able to fit enough equipment to provide for a decent workout. I have a compact mat that folds into a square that I place at the bottom of the suitcase. I have purchased a resistance band and jump rope, and I make sure to pack my sneakers and appropriate clothes. If there’s not adequate room within my hotel room, I find a spot in the hallway or parking lot. No matter what, I figure out a way to get my daily workout accomplished. The stress of travel makes it especially necessary. If I don’t get a chance to stretch and work up a good sweat, I end up very stiff and sore.
