Shortly after I graduated college and joined the workforce, I made the decision to improve my level of physical fitness.

  • While I’d never been significantly overweight, I always struggled with a few extra pounds and had no muscle tone.

I’ve never been particularly athletic, coordinated or flexible. I was never a member of any sports teams. I had no idea how to go about getting in better shape. I figured the right start was to sign up for a gym membership. I was able to fill out the form online, put in my credit card information and confirm my membership without ever stepping foot inside the gym. I then went out and bought some clothing specifically designed for exercise and exertion. The clothing is lightweight, wicks away moisture and super comfortable. Getting dressed in my new outfit for the gym gave me a little bit of confidence. As soon as I entered the facility, I immediately felt self-conscious and intimidated. The people working out seemed so accomplished and fit. They looked like they belonged at the gym. I had no experience with any of the many machines or equipment. I worried that I’d make a complete fool of myself. After checking things out, I decided that a stationary bike was the safest choice. All I needed to do was sit on it and pedal. I managed to figure out to press the right buttons to follow a program. For my first several visits to the gym, I spent the whole time on the same bike. I watched other people and learned how they utilized the different machines. Eventually, I moved onto the elliptical and then the treadmill. I’ve now been a member of the gym for over a year. I use all the different machines, have lost weight and toned my muscles.
