Shortly after a new fitness center opened up in the local area, my company started a corporate wellness plan.

They now offer all employees free membership at the fitness center.

Because of the nature of my job, I spend the majority of the day sitting in a chair, typing on a keyboard and staring at a computer monitor. I am sedentary for hours of time. I tend to have soreness in my neck, shoulders and back. My hips often ach and I have issues with both carpal tunnel syndrome and tennis elbow. I make an effort to get up every once in a while, walk around and stretch. While changing positions also helps, it’s not enough. A daily workout where I engage all my muscles, increase heart rate and thoroughly stretch is the best defense. I’ve found that I have a better day when I work out in the morning. My energy levels and productivity rate are much higher. I’m even in a more positive mood. I feel strong, fit and healthy, which leads to being all around happier. The location of the fitness center makes it convenient to stop there on the way to work in the morning or on my route home at the end of the day. I make every effort to get up early enough to complete my workout prior to starting my workday. Unfortunately, I can’t always force myself to get out of bed on time. Although I’m tired and anxious to get home at the close of the day, I never skip a workout. Once I change into my fitness clothes and get warmed up, I become motivated and always enjoy the workout.
