When my son was around twelve years old, he put on quite a bit of weight.

After never needing to worry about anything he ate, he was suddenly chubby.

I knew that his body was simply getting ready to grow and mature. However, that didn’t make him feel better or prevent him from getting picked on at school. Since fitness has always been an emphasis of my everyday life, I urged him to start working out with me. At first, he was reluctant. I assured him that he would not only lose the weight but gain muscle tone. After that, he’d get off the bus from school and change into workout clothes. He wasn’t all that happy with going for runs or lifting weights. He complained about sore muscles and hated doing squats, lunges and mountain climbers. I also made sure that he was eating healthy. I eliminated all the sugary snacks and processed foods from our cupboards. I bought lots of fresh apples, bananas, pears and beaches. It took a while, but my son gradually noticed improvement. He slimmed down and bulked up his muscles a bit. He started getting positive attention at school. It wasn’t long before I struggled to keep up with him. Over the next year, he grew several inches. My son is now an adult, and he still works out nearly every single day. He continues the exercise and diet habits that I taught him when he was a little boy. Because of this, he is healthy, fit and enjoys great quality of life.
