A few weeks ago, my husband and I started a large home renovation project.

We’re completely remodeling the kitchen and dining room. Everything was terribly outdated and the rooms lacked proper insulation and wiring. The kitchen was in desperate need of new plumbing, windows and appliances. We’ve torn down the walls and ceilings to expose the studs. We’re in the process of refinishing the hardwood floors. The plan is to install new cupboards, countertops and light fixtures. The job is definitely going to require several more months to finish. Although we’ve put up plastic sheets to separate the construction zone from the rest of the house, the mess has spread. It’s impossible to stop the dust, tools and construction debris from getting everywhere. My refrigerator, microwave and coffee pot are currently in the living room. Our supply of dry and canned goods is stacked in the hallway. My dishes and silverware are being stored in the bedroom and I’m washing dishes in the bathtub.Since we are handling the whole project ourselves, every minute of free time is devoted to it. I’m finding it a challenge to fit in my daily workout. My husband and I start work on the various remodeling tasks at seven o’clock in the morning on weekends. We put in a few hours after work during the week. I either need to get up super early to workout and try to motivate myself at the end of the day, when I’m exhausted. Plus, my home gym area is constantly covered in dust. I need to clean off my equipment before I can workout. If the weather permits, I try to go for a quick run or a bicycle ride. My muscles are so sore from our project, that it’s a challenge to do anything.
