My partner and I cut our time between our northern and southern home.
After we retired from our jobs, my partner and I wanted to get away from the long winters of cold and snow in the north. We bought a little lake-front chalet far enough south that the temperature never drops below 40 degrees! From May until the end of September, we appreciate the milder weather up north. We spend the remainder of the year at our vacation lake house down south, however while we genuinely appreciate our new lifestyle, maintaining the northern and southern home is a good deal of work, and it’s hard to keep up with the lawn care and regular repairs when we’re only on the property for half of the year. We stress about issues with the heating and cooling systems causing issues such as pipes freezing. There was also the fear of someone breaking into the house while all of us were away. I wanted to be able to watch over the properties whether we were on the premises or not. Installing a lake home security system was one of the best choices we’ve made. We’re now able to keep on the houses through an app on our smartphones. My partner and I installed surveillance cameras so that we can watch real-time footage. We added motion-sensitive lights and automated door locks. There’s sensors on all the windows that send an update if one opens or if there’s glass breakage. TWe get notifications if there’s movement on either of the properties or if someone steps up onto the front porch. We’re able to see who it is and even chat with them.
