We initially had to get an oil furnace when we first bought our home.
The old oil furnace was shot and we couldn’t afford to convert to a gas heating system back then. Finally after 25 years, our oil furnace was finished and we decided it was time to convert to a natural gas furnace. This procedure was a bit expensive, but comparing the cost of oil to gas, I knew that we were going to save a great deal of money during the winter months. I can’t tell you how happy I was when I knew that I would never have to fill up the oil furnace again with oil, it was a load off my shoulders. Also the new gas furnace is highly energy efficient. This first winter with our new gas furnace, I couldn’t believe how low the energy bills were. It was the most wonderful thing ever and I knew that we would recover the investment to get a gas furnace in no time. My wife jokes and says that one day we should get radiant heated floors after this gas furnace dies. Well, we will be pretty darn old by that time and I imagine we might be put into some sort of nursing home by our children. That’s not something that I want for us, I’d rather die in my own home even if I can’t take care of myself in the future. I suppose if they had a nice enough climate control system though, I might be able to work with a nursing home.
