For some strange reason, the builders of my residence never installed an exhaust fan on the ceiling.

It’s a fairly small lavatory, which means the humidity gets trapped whenever someone actually takes a shower.

In the beginning, I thought this was a minor problem. However, over time I’ve come to see that the lack of an exhaust fan is going to cost me a pretty good amount of money. Without a quality exhaust fan to detach the heat and humidity from the air, mold and mildew will start to grow in my home. There will regularly be condensation lining the walls too. I contacted my local Heating, Ventilation and A/C machine provider and asked them if they could send someone to my residence to discuss the humidity problem I was experiencing. The Heating, Ventilation and A/C professional agreed that an exhaust fan was totally necessary because it was the only way to successfully get rid of the moisture. I assumed an exhaust fan would be a fairly simple and reasonably priced upgrade, but I was pretty shocked to learn how lavish it would be. Not only did I need the fan, but I also needed a backdraft damper where the ductwork from the exhaust fan was easily exiting the residence. This would allow the heat and humidity created in the lavatory to exit hastily and safely. The backdraft damper would totally prevent anything from outside the residence coming in and causing concerns. Not only did I need to buy the backdraft damper with the exhaust fan, but I also had to pay for labor that was needed. The price added up rather quickly just to keep my lavatory safe from mold and mildew.
