Before the HVAC technician arrived at my house for my annual HVAC service appointment, I had a question that I really wanted to ask him.

I had purchased a new dog between my last HVAC servicing and this current one, and there was a lot of hair floating around the air.

I didn’t know how much hair was getting trapped in the air filter, but I was dying to know. I also needed to know how often I needed to replace the air filter since I had a dog that was shedding now. When I asked the HVAC technician, he told me that he’d show me the air filter and give me his professional opinion. The air filter definitely wasn’t as congested as I thought it would be, but then again I’d only had my new dog for two months. The HVAC technician said the air filter needed to be replaced, but it wasn’t as bad as some of the air filters he’d seen in the past. In order to prevent the air filter from becoming too congested and causing issues with my HVAC system, he suggested that I invest in a good, cordless vacuum cleaner. He said I needed to purchase one that was easy to whip out and had a special suction for pet hair. If I could vacuum at least once a day, I could prevent the pet hair from entering my HVAC system. The more hair I kept from getting stuck in the air filter, the less I’d need to replace the air filter. I’m really glad I didn’t have to purchase anything too expensive and the HVAC technician gave me a practical way to keep my air filter clean.
