There’s something really wonderful about walking barefoot across a warm floor. Because the heat is spread evenly across the surface of the floor, there are no cold spots. The heat rises slowly and consistently, eliminating drafts and stratification. The temperature in every cubic inch of the room is never further than three degrees from the thermostat. The operation is completely silent and the equipment is entirely concealed. There’s no ugly piece of machinery creating an eyesore or taking up valuable space. Furniture doesn’t need to be arranged to accommodate a blast of hot air from vents. Since there’s no air getting blown into the room, there’s no worry over an influx of contaminants, such as dust, bacteria and mold spores. Radiant flooring is one of the cleanest heating options and recommended for people who suffer from allergies and asthma. It doesn’t cause issues with insufficient humidity. One of the best things about heated floors is the easy set up of zone control. With a thermostat installed in each room, the temperature can be set to accommodate occupancy, requirement and preference. There’s no need to maintain empty bedrooms at the perfect temperature during the day. Those rooms that tend to feel chilly can be targeted. Someday, I hope to build a home from the ground up. I plan to invest in a boiler and hydronic heated floors throughout the house. I would also like to link the boiler to a snowmelt system outside. This would be the ideal solution to the cold, snowy winters in my local area.
