I was never sure my parents would ever get back together again.

Their divorce had been amicable, but we never held hope for a reunion.

They both began dating other people, and life moved on. Later on, my sister fell ill and moved in with mom for better care. Dad also wanted to help, so he moved closer to them. That’s when they reunited and began growing as friends. As my sister got better, they began hanging out more and planned to get back together. Mom and dad sold the old house and planned to buy a new one. It would symbolize their reunion, but the new house required air conditioning. The debate between our parents was whether to get a heat pump or a gas furnace. Mom was all for a heat pump, which she had in the former house. She said it was an all-purpose air conditioning unit that would keep the house warm all winter and cool all summer. But, dad wanted a gas furnace that was energy efficient and excellent in heating a home. They’d use a cooling system to keep the house comfortable in the summer. The debate went on for some time, but eventually, they had to compromise. Setting up both units would be costly, so they opted to go with the cooling and heating unit, which was efficient. In summer, it would serve them to cool their new home and winter to heat the same space effectively. Needless to say, they made the right decision, and dad did manage to get a game room for his toys as a compromise for going with the heat pump that mom wanted.
