Last week, my dad hired a new HVAC technician for the company.

She had been an HVAC technician for five years and had recently moved into the area.

She said she wasn’t ready to give up working, and was hoping we would ‌hire her. My dad only cared about her qualifications and started asking her questions about the job. From everything I could tell, she was one of the most competent HVAC technicians we had ever hired. I couldn’t wait to work with her for the first week, just to see if her work ethics were as good as she professed. I took the hardest jobs that came in that week, and I watched as she completed them. There were a few times when she needed an extra pair of hands, but it had nothing to do with how she was doing the job. By the end of the week, I was enamored with her and thrilled with the work she had performed. I told dad I had no problem letting her work alone, and he agreed. The following week, I found out that I missed working with her. There was something about her competence and the way she smelled that had me wanting to be her partner every time she went out in the service van. If my dad hadn’t told me she was engaged, I may have asked her out on a date. I”m glad he kept me from embarrassing myself. If he hadn’t told me when he did, I may have asked her if she wanted to be my permanent partner, and I wouldn’t have meant as an HVAC technician.
