If no one has ever told you before to listen to the advice of professionals when it comes to things that you are not as nearly as knowledgeable about, well then listen up.

I have a good story as to why it’s far better to trust professional advice rather than your own intuition.

The story concerns my HVAC system and the ultimate negligence I showed towards it. My HVAC technician told me to simply change my air filters once a month because it was required. I figured that this was needlessly frequent, and that every other month would do just fine. I figured I would be saving on the amount of air filters I would purchase by using half of what I would have used if I had listened to the HVAC technician’s advice. It turns out that this choice would end up costing me far more than one thousand air filters would have! You see, this HVAC negligence piled up in the form of dirt and debris within the inner workings of the heating and air conditioning unit. Eventually, the entire system gave out on me one day. I sheepishly called out an HVAC technician because I think I knew exactly what the problem was. Sure enough, all the dirt and debris caused the motor in my HVAC unit to fail. It needed to be replaced entirely! This ended up costing me hundreds of dollars. I had to admit to my HVAC technician that I had not been listening to his advice, although it seems he knew exactly what went wrong without me needing to admit to it. I told him I would listen to his advice from that moment forward!
