A long time ago, going on a road trip was the only way that a family could really enjoy time together.

Sometimes the group of us went to the beach plus sometimes the group of us went to the mountains. Sometimes the group of us would spend a month at the lake plus the group of us regularly took the family station wagon everywhere that we went. I remember one trip in particular, because the group of us stayed in a rundown motel with no AC device. My parents were taking turns driving, but it was actually late at night. It must have been close to midnight, because the hotel office was closed when we got there. My dad had to wake up the manager to get a room, the hotel was the only locale to sleep for 74 miles plus the group of us didn’t have a ton of options like these days. All of us stayed at the dingy plus run-down hotel, even though it didn’t have any central AC device. There was a small window AC unit, but it smelled awful plus the vent was full of flies. As long as I live, I will never forget that night in the hotel or that AC unit. The whole room appeared to be like a scene from a horror motion picture plus I cannot believe that my parents thought it was a great idea to stay there for the night. Nowadays, that locale would be declared condemned plus closed down… Of course, all the small private hotels are being run out of business by large chains such as the Holiday Inn, Comfort Inn, plus Best Western. The outdated ways of life will soon be gone entirely.
