As long as I live, I will never forget that night in the hotel or that AC appliance.
A long time ago, going on a road trip was pretty much the only way that a family could appreciate time together. When I was young, my family & I went on road trips regularly. Periodically the people I was with and I opted to go to the beach & on occasion the people I was with and I opted to go to the mountains. Periodically the people I was with and I spent a month at the lake & the people I was with and I regularly took the family station wagon everywhere that the people I was with and I went. I remember one trip in particular, because the people I was with and I stayed in a rundown motel with no AC appliance. My parents were taking turns driving, but it was extremely late at night. It must have been close to midnight, because the hotel office was easily closed when the people I was with and I arrived. My parents went to wake up the manager to get a room, the hotel was the only place to sleep for 68 miles & the people I was with and I did not have numerous options like these days. The group of us stayed at the dingy & run-down hotel, even though it did not have any central AC appliances. There was a small window AC appliance, but it smelled really bad & the vent was full of flies. As long as I live, I will never forget that night in the hotel or that AC appliance. The whole room looked basically like a scene from a horror film & I cannot actually believe that my parents thought it was safe to stay there for the evening. Nowadays, that place would be declared condemned & closed down. Of course, all the small private hotels are being run out of business by crucial chains like Holiday Inn, Comfort Inn, & Best Western. The outdated ways of life will soon be a thing of the past.
