It is that time of year where you wake up and you can feel the crispness of Fall approaching.

I really like it because it means that sleeping with the windows open is awesome and I get to use my blankets on the bed again.

It also reminds me that I need to start preparing for the cold weather of winter. I am an avid gardener so I start to cut back flowers, and get those ready for the dormant season too. I even put a “blanket” of sorts on those because I mulch them to protect plants from snow and ice. The first thing on my list on the first of September is to call my local HVAC dealer to set up my bi-annual inspection of my HVAC system. They come out and make sure that my air conditioner is winterized and my furnace is in good working order so when I turn it on for the first time I won’t have any issues. I normally schedule this for the middle of the month so I can be fairly certain that I don’t need the air conditioner anymore. This has worked most years and on the occasion that the temperatures rise too high I simply use window fans to help cool the house. I just don’t want to be caught on a cold night with no heat. To me that is far less tolerable than a warm evening. I find it hard to get up in the morning to house that is less than sixty degrees and that can happen often in our area. My thermostat has a remote control so I can even kick on the heat while still laying under the blankets if needed and this is a great feature of my HVAC system too.
