Most people are familiar with warranties and how they work. When you purchase something you need to register it with the companies manufacturer along with your proof of purchase in order to qualify for future repairs. Failing to do this may cause problems. If you did not register and your equipment, such as your HVAC system breaks, you may find yourself paying for repairs yourself. Of course there are some repairs that are automatically covered. If the manufacturer issues a recall of the product due to a faulty part then they will cover the cost regardless of the completed forms or not. These factory authorized repairs are done with no out of pocket expense to the owner of the system. If you own an HVAC system with one of these recalled defective parts you will likely receive a letter from your HVAC dealer that installed it or the company themselves to let you know that you need to schedule a service call. Many times these types of recalls happen when a faulty part can cause the system to break, causing a fire, or worse so it is important to take care of the problem as soon as possible once you are notified. Just like you would not ignore the recalls on your vehicle for fear of a breakdown, you should never ignore the ones on other devices that you own either. You should also be diligent about filling out all paperwork that comes with your equipment or making sure that your HVAC dealer does that for you at the time of purchase.
