Whatever profession you are in, there are certain things that you learn over time that make your job easier.
- Even as a writer, I have found certain things that make my job a bit less frustrating.
Not that writing is like that all the time, but when you are struggling to deliver something to your publisher on a deadline, you need to take steps to help boost your creativity. My favorite, and best trick, is to take an hour, sit by the lake, and just take in the beauty around me. This will usually bring my mind back to focus and I can continue. My dad, who is an electronic technician by trade, sometimes needs tricks and shortcuts to accomplish his job too. He sometimes has to walk away from a complicated repair so that he can look at it with fresh eyes. He called the other day to see if I wanted to go for coffee. Now, it was the middle of the workday. He works for an HVAC company doing repairs on commercial units. I knew that it as during his shift but he needed to walk away and do something else for a bit. He told me that they unit was not firing right and somewhere in the system there was wire somewhere he needed to find to repair it. I don’t understand much of what he does but listened patiently. I have an admiration for him as he can understand the workings of HVAC systems better than anyone I know. Customers depend on him and those skills to keep them warm in the winter and cool in the summer.
