While packing up our kid for university all of us made sure to pay close attention to the rules of the dormitory.
There were many things that you could & could not bring along & all of us wanted to make sure she would be in compliance with the regulations, and she was heading out for her first semester of her freshman year & all of us did not want him to run into any difficulties! It was going to be hard enough to have him away from beach home & not be able to see him everyday so the last thing I wanted was a call saying she had a problem, however one of the rules for the dormitory stated that she could not have any sort of plug-in portable gas furnace or a/c that was not cleared through the maintenance department! Apparently in the past they had had problems with faulty units that could have caused a fire so they were undoubtedly careful about what they allowed into the building.
In fact, it stated that she couldn’t even have a portable fan that was not certified through the meanest Department as safe for use. All I could guess of was that she was going to be terribly uncomfortable because there was only one small window in her dorm room which would not allow for much ventilation. I contacted the university to find out if there were certain Brands & types of these portable Heating & A/C units that were on a list of adequate ones, then they referred me to a local Heating & A/C company that many of the students used because they were certified to labor with the university & all of us would be able to purchase one that was already deemed safe, then when I called I found out that these units were costly but felt I did not have any choice but to go through the company that the university had requested .
