Ever since our dad had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, our sibling & I have been keeping an eye on him to give mom a break.

Once a week, our sibling & I would take a day each, & watch dad for mom.

Last year was take your child to toil day. My sibling had already promised his child that he would take him to toil with him, which left myself and others with dad. I don’t normally take dad to toil with me, because he can be quite a handful. I toil for an Heating, Ventilation, & A/C dealer, & I am constantly fearful that he will walk away. I was sitting in the office the night before, talking to our boss. He knew our father well, since they were friends when laboring for the same Heating, Ventilation, & A/C dealer. He was constantly inquiring about dad’s health & making offers to help if it was ever needed. I mentioned to him that I needed to bring dad to toil with myself and others the next day. He told myself and others that I could leave him in the office with him if I needed to go out on a call. I couldn’t think how much fun dad had that day. It seemed that being with his outdated acquaintance jostled his memory enough that they had an amazing time together. For the first time in a year, dad remembered being an Heating, Ventilation, & A/C professional & that I was his son. I only hoped his memory stuck around long enough for our mom to appreciate the outdated dad. I wished I had worked with him when he was an Heating, Ventilation, & A/C professional. He really was truly good at what he did.
