Over the past six weeks I’ve been painting and readying a condominium to move into.

I purchased the unit so I could downsize and get closer to the beach.

However, my limited budget forced me to look for a condo that needed some repair work done to make it comfortably livable again. It’s hard finding good housing in prime locations that aren’t dilapidated or so expensive that they’ll make your head spin when you look at the asking price. Since I have experience working for a home contractor in the past, I was able to do much of the necessary work myself without needing to call in outside help. However, there are certain areas of home repair that I simply cannot do alone and must call certified professionals to handle it for me. I feel this way primarily about electrical work and HVAC repair, service, and maintenance. While my father taught me a lot about electricity in homes, there was no one to train me in heating and cooling. That’s especially true for ductwork cleaning, which must be done by a specially certified professional who has the proper training to handle ventilation system cleaning. There are protocols that must be followed to prevent further contamination in the home after dislodging built up microbial film inside metal ducts. It was expensive, but the ductwork cleaning I ordered got rid of a bunch of dust and mold that had gathered in my ventilation system. I made considerable improvements with my allergies after getting my ductwork cleaned. Now I’m ready to do the remaining work in this condo to get it livable again!
