The company I recently joined has this thing they call baptism by fire.

When a new HVAC tech is baptized by fire, it means that they can be requested to carry out a task solo when out on work orders at any point during their first month.

I was only three weeks old at the company when we were called out for a work order. I did not know what the order was until we got to talk to the customer at her house. The customer was very irate about her furnace. She stated that it had been acting up, and so did her digital thermostat. She had just gotten the new unit a year ago after replacing it with the old geo heat pump. My supervisor announced that I would be running heating maintenance solo. This meant that I would lead the operation, but I could delegate if I wished. I started by inspecting the heating device and then delegated the ductwork assessment to the other junior HVAC serviceman. They needed to do duct sealing to stop the waste of energy. I believe that this far, I know the heating industry and understand the current heating technology. I got confident and executed the required heating repairs. The heating dealer helped provide the components for replacement. I had read how to deliver home services and had shadowed some experts, but doing it in person was not as straightforward. I ran point on the whole process until the customer was happy about the restored indoor comfort. When we finished the job, my boss handed me a document while we were in the truck. The document indicated my score in the assessment. I had passed with flying colors.
