I’m not looking forward to the next few weeks when our project deadlines loom and our target goals increase.

We do subcontract work for other companies, but we’re short of a few key people this month due to positive COVID tests.

It’s hard to find employees to work when the only ones available are constantly getting sick and requiring mandatory quarantine periods at home to be cleared to work around other people again. If our company had a remote workforce, we could circumnavigate these problems with employee viral infections much more easily, especially if the COVID-positive employees have minimal, if any symptoms from the virus. That is one of the only positive take-aways from the current surge in COVID cases—the rate of deaths and hospitalizations is still down. Another factor that’s making work even more stressful than normal right now is the sudden change in weather. We’ve officially transitioned from spring into summer and you can notice as soon as you walk outside. The sun is intense once again with temperatures in the 80s throughout the morning and afternoon hours. I get so hot during this time of the year that I have to run the air conditioner in my car on full blast while I’m driving around. It’s daunting when I have to drive to meet a client somewhere across the state and we’re out in a parking lot with no shade and little to no wind moving. That’s when the heat gets downright miserable. When I finally get back home I turn on my air conditioner and sit in a chair underneath one of my ceiling vents so I can feel the cold air hit my skin directly.
