Hurricane Ian hit pretty close to home this past month. In fact, we were impacted pretty severely. There were no deaths in the area, and it is true that there were other communities that were hit far harder than us. But we did not escape undamaged. There’s a lot of cleanup work to do around here. I’m glad that my own property was largely spared of any major issues. There was some flooding in my neighborhood, and I had a whole lot of debris in my yard, including a very thick tree branch that fell just a foot away from the condenser unit for my air conditioning system! Boy, am I lucky that it didn’t hit the condenser! But speaking of heating and air conditioning issues, I’m going to be helping my father’s business for the next few weeks, as I have been doing since I was a teenager. He’s had me help him with all sorts of jobs for a little extra cash over the years. And it’s true that there are a lot of people in our community that have HVAC problems after the storm. Whether it’s because their equipment was damaged, or because they were less lucky than I was, or if power outages caused electrical problems with their equipment, they’re going to need a whole lot of help over the next few weeks. I’m more than happy to lend a hand, and I know it won’t be easy work, but it’ll be worth the extra income. I even have another contractor friend who’s asked for my help in clearing debris off the roads in my area, including very large tree branches. I think I’m going to take him up on the offer as well, although it will be even more difficult work than the HVAC stuff.
