When I married my wife, I committed to a lifelong union that wouldn’t be torn apart for any reason.

Despite our best efforts, we keep getting pushed farther apart.

Part of the problem is we married far too young. We met in college and got engaged after two years of dating. By the time we earned our degrees, we had already tied the knot. It didn’t take long for us to begin drifting apart. I realized that I didn’t really know myself when we originally met, and realized I had changed drastically in just the past six years alone. Suddenly we no longer liked the same movies, music, food, indoor temperature settings, or even brightness level of the lights in our apartment. We butt heads on every issue that comes our way. As much as I love her, I realize that we would both be happier with different people. I started seeing a divorce lawyer who advised me on how I should proceed from there. When I went to my wife and told her that I wanted a divorce, she said that she had been thinking the same thing. Even though we split amicably, we each got our own divorce attorney to represent us in court. We both thought that was the best decision to make for one another, especially since neither of us had gone through this process before. My divorce lawyer told me that the divorce should be finalized in the next two months. Unfortunately the courts have slowed during COVID for all lawyers regardless of what kind of practice they run or work for.
