My wife and I decided to wait until we retired before building our very first home.
The house is the third one we have owned together but the first to have been built from scratch.
Our fist place was so tiny. But, it was ours and we hadn’t been married very long. I remember that we didn’t even have much of an HVAC unit in that place. She and I began a business and as it grew, so did our ability to find a house that we could raise a family in. We had some tough times and had to juggle a business, a growing family and a recession that made things very tricky. But, the business survived and we just kept thriving. Time seemed to just fly by and suddenly that great big house was empty save for my wife and I. That’s when we knew it was time to pare down our belongings and build our first house. Retirement helped because we played a very active role in all the plans as the construction went along. In fact, we did the picking of the subcontractors. One great decision that we made was to go with an HVAC contractor who had been recommended to us. We had interviewed a few other contractors prior to picking him. But we were so unimpressed. So, it was with great relief to have this HVAC contractor show up and be so professional. It was easy to turn our plans over to him. He executed our HVAC vision in such a great way and always on time.
