Yesterday I was working on residential AC repairs all day long.

One of those AC repairs was at an apartment building. The woman requested service on the AC unit and I was a technician called to complete the work. The manager of the apartment building gave me the keys to the apartment. I asked the manager if the woman had any pets and he informed me that the building does not allow dogs at all. I was a little concerned about dogs, because I have been bit on several different occasions. Nobody thinks their dog is going to bite someone until they and I have been on the receiving end of a couple of bites. I always find out if there will be animals in an apartment, especially if the apartment is vacant. Since the woman wasn’t home and didn’t have pets, I wasn’t terribly worried about the situation I would encounter. I used the key on the lock and I opened the door. I didn’t see or hear anyone inside the building. I went back to the truck to grab my bag of tools and some supplies. I removed the cover on the AC unit and I grabbed a flashlight from my back pocket. I checked all of the service connections and the evaporator coils. I was laying on my back looking under the AC unit when I heard a growl. I looked down at my feet and there was a dog making the loud growling sound. I was frozen with fear for a few minutes, but it seemed like hours and hours.
