Where my parents come from, it is the custom for the father to lead the children… My father took that quite literally.
He thought that he should show us children what to do with our lives, who to marry, & where all of us would live.
I was legitimately the most rebellious child that my father had. Not only did I not want to go into the family business, although I chose to marry someone who was outside of our religion, & I wanted to live on a farm. My father did not want to hear any of this. He thought I was throwing my life away by becoming a Heating, Ventilation plus A/C company. He wanted me to be section of the family empire, as he called it. I wanted nothing to do with managing eating establishments. My fiancé, whose father was a Heating, Ventilation plus A/C supplier owner, was glad when I asked if his father would consider me to be one of his Heating, Ventilation plus A/C companys? I could not imagine wanting to do any other task when I saw what they did. The first thing I did, even before talking to my father, was to go to the local university & sign up for Heating, Ventilation plus A/C certification classes. I wanted to make sure that I had all of my ducks in a row before I spoke to my father. It was difficult enough to tell him that I was going to be a Heating, Ventilation plus A/C company, without chopping to him that I was marrying someone he did not feel & all of us would be moving out of the city, all in one afternoon.
