Where our parents come from, it is the custom for the father to lead the children! My father took that quite literally.
- He thought that he should show us children what to do with our lives, who to marry, & where we would live.
I was legitimately the most rebellious child that our father had. Not only did I not want to go into the family business, however I chose to marry someone who was outside of our religion, & I wanted to live on a farm. My father did not want to hear any of this. He thought I was throwing our life away by becoming a Heating & Air Conditioning professional. He wanted me to be area of the family empire, as he called it. I wanted nothing to do with managing eating establishments. My fiancé, whose father was a Heating & Air Conditioning business owner, was cheerful when I asked if her father would consider me to be 1 of his Heating & Air Conditioning professionals? I couldn’t imagine wanting to do any other job when I saw what they did. The first thing I did, even before talking to our father, was to go to the local school & sign up for Heating & Air Conditioning certification classes. I wanted to make sure that I had all of our ducks in a row before I spoke to our father. It was taxing enough to tell him that I was going to be a Heating & Air Conditioning professional, without chopping to him that I was marrying someone he did not believe & we would be moving out of the city, all in 1 day.
