My previous next door neighbor was a hobby beekeeper.
He learned the trade from his family members who operated a honey farm in an adjacent county for a number of years before selling the business to a larger corporation.
They kept up the trade but simply did it for fun in their own free time. It’s nice knowing that there are people still out there like this who are keeping the honey bee population alive and well with their passions. I loved getting free jars of homemade honey from him whenever he did his harvests. I was sad to see this neighbor leave but I understood that he was moving back to his home state to be close to his parents. To my utter surprise, the new neighbor that moved in after the beekeeper left is even nicer, as hard as that is for me to believe. He and his wife immediately invited my wife and I over to his house for a barbecue within days of him moving in. That’s when I learned that our new neighbor owns an HVAC service company. He started out as a heating and cooling technician in trade school in his early 20s and slowly worked his way up at the company that initially employed him. When he became a master technician, he knew that it would only be a matter of time before he would go out independently and start an HVAC company of his very own. He took some of his clients from his old job and quickly amassed a large clientele with referrals from his initial customers. I love having an HVAC next door because I can call him whenever we’re having issues with our air conditioner or furnace.
