For the past several weeks I have felt extremely off-kilter.

My body is not interested in doing the same tasks as I usually perform.

I have fallen off the wagon with my normal routines of taking a long walk in the afternoon, reflecting on my day in the evening, and getting in touch with my loved ones early in the morning. I realized that I was more motivated to lay in bed than anything else. And then… I considered that this might be an evolutionary function based on the air temperature. Perhaps, rather than fighting the climate, I should immerse myself in the ice cold winter temperatures and allow my body to do what it was naturally programmed to do. That’s the day that I turned off my heating system for the most part. Don’t get me wrong, I do not want my pipes to freeze so I have not completely powered off the furnace. However, I have reduced my indoor air temperature down to 55 degrees every day. I feel like it is a lot more natural and healthy for me to live in chilly air conditions throughout the winter than it is to blast my powerful forced air furnace and artificially heated air through every vent. I am not extremely comfortable with my cold indoor air, though. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that I have adjusted to the low indoor air temperature very easily. However, living with natural temperature regulation seems to be helping my body to live in accordance with my evolutionary processes. By that, I mean that I don’t get out of bed most days because the air temperature is so low. Hibernation is a natural thing.
