The personal trainer has taught my group how to run with the rope, turn, kick, do high knees and double jump with it.

Back in middle school, the gym teacher would introduce a box of ancient beaded jump ropes. There were short red ropes, medium sized blue ones and super long green ropes. I would just grab whatever rope was available and attempt to jump. The 40 minute class was entirely devoted to jumping. We didn’t properly warm up or cool down. I spent my time just resting and holding my rope. If I tried to jump, I’d hit my legs or trip on the rope. Those painful plastic beads were painful. I would try to jump higher and quickly get exhausted. I constantly landed on top of the rope and stumbled around like an idiot. I got embarrassed and no longer wanted to jump. Ten years later, I had signed up for a group class at the local fitness center. The personal trainer leading the class brought out a box of jump ropes. I was on the verge of leaving. Thank goodness I decided to trust the fitness expert and give it a try. She sized the rope to match our height and instructed us on how to jump properly. I wasn’t aware that I held the rope too low and jumped too high. I never realized what a beneficial workout jump roping can be. It is a fantastic cardio workout and it can actually be quite fun. The personal trainer has taught my group how to run with the rope, turn, kick, do high knees and double jump with it. I have gotten pretty good at it. I have even considered buying my own rope and practicing at home. I have noticed the improvement in my legs, arms and belly because of all the jumping I am doing. I want to gain even more progress.
