My parents have lived in the same house for over 40 years! I was brought home to this house as a newborn along with all my other siblings.
All my memories were made between these walls and out in the spacious backyard.
My parents contemplated moving or even building another home to settle down in, but they couldn’t’ bring themselves to leave. There was too much history at that address. Instead, they decided to renovate the entire home. They hired a great contractor and began renovations right away. One of the biggest changes they wanted to make to their home was the HVAC system. They’d always had radiators for heat along the baseboards in each room, and there were several window AC units in the bedrooms. Although the radiators provided heat and the window AC units cool the rooms, the heat and air was never efficient or consistent. We grew up with the radiators and window AC units, so we made it work, but my parents were ready for an upgrade. When designing the blueprints for their new space, they decided to install central heat and air. It was way more expensive to install central heat and air instead of upgrading the radiators and window AC units, but it would make the home feel more modern and increase the value of the house. My parents were excited to control both the heat and air from one central thermostat and run their HVAC system more efficiently. They were also looking forward to having their home heated and cooled more consistently.
