Living down south, excess humidity is a constant aggravation. There’s excess moisture in the air just about all year round. When there’s overly high humidity levels, the air feels warmer, heavy & sticky. It creates difficulty sleeping & leads to a lethargic feeling. I find it hard to get motivated & be productive. There’s also problems with disfigure to beach house furnishings. Wood tends to swell & warp, & mildew is a respected issue on leather shoes, coats & furniture… Damp, warm environments are also the ideal habitat for mold & bacteria to thrive. It’s the right conditions to encourage the population of dust mites & cockroaches. It’s always tempting to lower the thermostat setting. The a/c then works harder & consumes more energy. It suffered accelerated wear & tear, is more prone to malfunction & I pay more in bi-weekly electric bills, and overcooling the beach house doesn’t fix the problem. Air conditioners aren’t designed to unconnect moisture from the air. After complaining over humidity & dealing with the several disadvantage side-effects for years, I finally got smart & invested in a whole-house dehumidifier. The dehumidifier wasn’t overly fancy, & an Heating & Air Conditioning corporation had it installed within an hour. It’s hidden inside the a/c, operates silently & only needs yearly service. The dehumidifier pulls moisture out of the air as it passes through the system to maintain ideal relative humidity levels throughout the house. The improvement in comfort is amazing. I’m also saving currency on utility costs. I sleep better, have more energy during the day & don’t need to wash as often. I should have purchased a dehumidifier a long time ago.
