We told our son that there was no way he was going to go through the entire summer without doing anything.
We really wanted him to get some kind of job, but we weren’t sure what he could get.
He was a little too young to get an official job and my wife and I discussed this. Then my wife said that he could always babysit. I wasn’t sure if he would be interested in doing that at all, but we asked him. He didn’t seem to be interested, but my wife said he had to do something to make some money. So we ended up getting him a job with one of our neighbors who knew our son already. He actually already knew their children too and he knew how much they enjoyed video games. So he ended up taking the baby sitting gig and surprisingly it was a good time for him. He was allowed to adjust the temperature control settings to his liking which is something we don’t let him do. We actually keep a pin code on our smart thermostat so he can’t mess with the temperature control settings. This was done initially because he used to sneak to adjust the temperature control settings all the time when he was younger. I’m sure he was cranking the A/C at the neighbor’s house, but it seemed like they were pleased with his service, and they paid him a reasonable amount for his time. It honestly can’t be too bad getting paid to play video games while being able to enjoy the air conditioning system.
