This summer, my dad is putting a big addition on the back of his house.
- He and my stepmom had been talking about doing it for years but the time has never been right for some reason or other.
He recently retired though, and now he says it is finally just the right time for them to add on three extra bedrooms and a bathroom. The reason that they want three extra bedrooms and a bathroom is because they want all of their grandkids to be able to stay there at the same time during the holidays. I think that’s really sweet of them, and I also love the fact that while they are putting on the addition, they are going to be adding a new gas fireplace onto the house at the same time. That new fireplace will definitely make the holidays feel extra special while the kids are all there with their grandparents and their cousins. I’m really excited for them and for this whole project, honestly. I hope that they will be able to find just the right HVAC contractor for the job, because I know it’s going to be an issue when they have to figure out what to do about the existing heating and cooling system. Putting that addition on is going to add a whole lot of square footage and I’m just not sure that their existing heating and cooling system is going to be able to handle it. If they end up having to add a whole new HVAC system for that part of the house, the cost is going to end up being much more substantial, that’s for sure.
