When choosing to move out to essentially the middle of nowhere, one thing I didn’t consider was how I was going to find an HVAC professional to take care of my HVAC at home.

The place I found is really nice, secluded with a large amount of land. However, the HVAC was not in the best of shape. There fortunately are a couple of fireplaces in the home so you have that backup heating especially for emergency situations with an HVAC system breakdown. Of course, I was not about to only rely on this old HVAC system. Sadly, I called around to some distant HVAC companies. The nearest place was approximately an hour drive away and they refused to do any HVAC service at my home. I ended up looking on the internet to see if there were any HVAC systems that could be installed by the homeowner. I honestly didn’t think I was going to find anything, but I stumbled across DIY ductless mini splits. These are full HVAC systems with an outdoor condenser unit along with indoor air handlers. There is no ductwork required and the installation honestly isn’t very difficult. I was able to install this system on my own in a couple of hours. After watching the installation video, the whole thing is a breeze. You just have to be extremely careful during the electrical connections and make sure all power is off. You also want to make sure you have a gadget to check for live wires so you don’t electrocute yourself. Other than that, it was just drilling 3.5 inch holes in the walls to the outside and running the line sets from the indoor units to the outdoor one. Next I’m thinking about doing a solar panel installation.
