When I was a youngster, sadly I was sent to an orphanage.

It didn’t even seem right because my parents were good people, but there were some sort of allegations against them that split the family apart.

Well, the orphanage I was sent to was a terrible place. It was run by nuns, not all of them bad, but there were some pretty terrible ladies who always wanted to make an example out of somebody. I was often humiliated by these women and they would beat me down whenever I didn’t do something exactly to their liking. It was a hard life until I was finally able to be back with my family when I was 16. I suffered that dreaded orphanage for 3 years though and it gave me permanent scars. I still have nightmares about the days when I would be locked in a closet with a portable heater running so that I would feel the heat. They said that we had to be purged of our sins and the heating from the heater system would clean us. I guess they thought that sin was something that could be sweated out from the body. In my mind, it was nothing but child abuse but some other other girls thought they deserved these cruel punishments. I never gave in and I never let them see me cry. These days I write to inform people about the abuse that happens in some of these facilities. I want everybody to remember that not all the nuns were bad, but the ones who used climate control as punishment belong in prison.
