When I first started working from home, I really enjoyed the flexibility that I found from being able to work on my own schedule, from the comfort of my own home.

At first I was working from my dining room table, as I originally thought that my new situation would be temporary, but a few weeks in, my boss announced that my position would be remote permanently.

Needing a more convenient space to work and to take zoom calls, I decided to build a backyard home office. Once the shed was built, the only decision I had left was how to heat and cool the space. Extending the ductwork would have been expensive and time-consuming, and I didn’t want to sacrifice the one window in the shed for an ugly window unit. I decided to go with a ductless mini-split for my HVAC needs. A ductless mini-split functions similar to a traditional HVAC system, but the flow of coolant between the condenser and evaporator can be reversed in order to heat the room in the winter, and cool the room in the summer. Installing the ductless mini-split was simple, and only required a three inch hole for all of the necessary components. Thanks to my ductless mini-split, I now have a comfortable place to work, take zoom calls, and even meet with clients. If you are thinking about building a backyard home office, or if you want to make other kinds of home renovations, talk to your HVAC provider to see if a ductless mini-split is the right solution for you!
