It really wasn’t my idea to build a house at this age.

In fact, my husband and I had made plans for the better part of a decade to move south when we retired.

We were ready to embrace all that HVAC cooling down there and live out our lives on a golf course. That didn’t happen as my husband passed away suddenly just a year prior to retiring. When he died, we had already replaced the HVAC equipment in our home in order to get it on the market and get a really good price. When he died, I sort of was just in a fog for the better part of six months. Finally, I started piecing my life together and decided to sell the house. I was stunned to find myself in the middle of a bidding war for our family home. Honestly, all the improvements like the HVAC equipment made a big difference in getting that price for the house. I had no desire to move south to the HVAC cooling without my husband and preferred to stay close to family. My daughter actually brought up the idea of building my own small house. And it ended up making sense. She was instrumental in helping me plan, design and get the thing built. I’m so glad because otherwise, I wouldn’t have ended up with a geothermal heat pump in my new house. This thing is so efficient and cheap to operate. But my favorite part is the radiant floor heating. I love it as I can enjoy being barefoot without moving south to all of that HVAC cooling.
